False myths and legends are created continuously over time. Some disappear to make way for the next and others remain by tradition. There are many related to insomnia, one of the most common is that vitamin C should not be taken at night, because if so we will not be able to sleep. This is not true, foods that contain this vitamin can be taken at any time of the day, and it will not influence our sleep.
Vitamin C does let you sleep
- The best thing to do when taking vitamins as an additional supplement to our diet is that we do it at the same time that we eat some food. In this way it contributes to the best absorption of the vitamin. In addition, the doses must be small, so that the intake is more distributed throughout the day and a total balance is produced. However, there are certain vitamins that work better on an empty stomach, so bedtime is ideal for them to do their job well. An example of this is calcium, which is also a natural muscle relaxant. The same goes for vitamins B and C., they work wonderfully in acidic conditions and are soluble in water, so the night is the perfect time to take them.
- Conversely, some vitamins, which are fat soluble, are not ideal for overnight. As an example of these vitamins we find A, D, E and K. In these cases, it is preferable to have a full stomach, since this type of vitamin is absorbed and dissolved much better with a food source of fat in the body. For this reason, it is recommended that before eating them you eat something like a sandwich or some cheese, for example. In this way, it is clear that we cannot take different vitamins at the same time, because contrary to what is believed, vitamin C is ideal for the night and vitamin K, to take an example, is not.
